Bean Peak & Volcanic Neck

With only one day free for mountain play last weekend, I offered to lead a scramble for the Mountaineers up Bean Peak and Volcanic Neck. What an awesome day to be in the mountains!

It was 38 degrees when we left the TH at 8:40 a.m. Brrr! I expected there to be some snow on the ground, but things had pretty much all melted out. Good thing too, since I’d left my ice ax in the car accidentally! The scramble up VN was surprisingly fun, with a few heart-pounding airy moments. Instead of retracing our steps down Bean Basin, we hiked out via the Hardscrabble Trail, Fourth Creek Trail and Beverly Turnpike Trail to make a nice loop.
