Coming to a mountain near you

Merry Christmas to me! My new boots arrived from Gore today. I can’t wait to out them through the paces on my next mountain adventure.

Oh, and those new gaiters are courtesy of Outdoor Research. When OR says their products have an “infinite guarantee” they really mean it. (On Sunday they took back a pair of 11-year-old gaiters with holes in them and gave me a brand new pair!)

It really pays to buy from brands who stand behind their products.

Olympic Sculpture Park

Nick and I found ourselves in Seattle on Sunday afternoon, so we headed over to the Olympic sculpture park at dusk to take a few pictures. This is one of the neatest places to talk a walk and enjoy nature in the city.

Annual motorcycle lust party

Every December motorcycle enthusiasts gather in Seattle to pick out their next ride, ooh-and-aahh at booth babes, fondle shiny new gear, and get amped about their next two-wheeled adventure (next May, when it stops raining). Nick, Mark, Laura, Dave, my dad, and I joined the fun yesterday morning.

Even though my dad is a current BMW rider, I think the Diavel (and Ducatis in general) still have a spot in his heart:

Nick and my former colleague David are suckers for a meticulously restored vintage Honda CB750 Super Sport:

It’s too bad Nick’s dad Keith was not available to join us. He would have loved the VME club’s collection, including this British beauty:

Thank you WL Gore!

Christmas is arriving early, thanks to Gore’s awesome lifetime warranty! I sent a pair of Goretex lined trail running shoes and climbing boots back to them because they were not waterproof anymore. They tested them and told me that they definitely leaked and were under warranty (i.e. not totally trashed). Within a week of specifying which shoes I’d like to replace them with, these showed up at my door:

Garmont Mystic GTX approach shoes

The Trango Extreme’s have been a bit harder to locate in my size. If all goes well, I should have them soon too!

Marking the passage of time

Roald Amundsen (Credit: Wikipedia)

One hundred years ago today Roald Engelbregt Gravning Amundsen and his companions – Olav Bjaaland, Helmer Hanssen, Sverre Hassel and Oscar Wisting – reached the South Pole. As we embark on our own winter activities, remember:
